Today, we are headed to Tazzarine, through beautiful settings of palm grooves and desert plateaus. We will visit our first petroglyph site at Ait Ouazik and see amazing ancient carvings of animals and human figures. These petroglyphs are so interesting, because they give you a picture of what the early peoples of this region were like. We will arrive in Tazzarine in the late afternoon, and then return to the hotel.
We will spend the day visiting some of the additional petroglyph sites around Tazzarine. We will visit Alnif and Jbel Saghro, where there are numerous examples of beautiful rock art dating back to many thousands of years ago. You will learn about the significance of these carvings from our guide and enjoy a picnic with incredible desert scenery. Then we will head back to Tazzarine for an evening at your leisure.
Following breakfast, we make a stop along the way to Zagora, a desert town with serious desert scenery and history. Along the way, we will stop at more petroglyph sites including Foum Chenna petroglyphs where the rocks are carved in details. You will arrive in Zagora, check into your hotel and then have time to relax or visit the town and markets or any historical or significant structure there.
Our journey continues as we go deeper into the Sahara Desert towards M’Hamid, which is famous for its numerous petroglyphs. See examples from the Oued Draa area and hear stories from ancient civilizations that existed in that area. In the evening, we will spend the night in a medium-sized Berber tent camp, playing music and telling stories around a fire under the stars.
Following an amazing night in the desert, we will begin our drive back to Marrakech. One final drive to take it all in – we will arrive back in the late afternoon – either last minute shopping for souvenirs, or relaxing at your hotel before you leave.
