Itineraries

Situated in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and surrounded in endless beauty and raw wilderness, Mount Toubkal boasts an elevation of 4,167 meters (13,671 feet) and is a desired summit, attracting trekkers from all around the world!

The journey starts from the bustling streets of Marrakech as trekkers are driven to the picturesque village of Imlil as a point where one can start the trek. This pleasant village is the point to gain access to Toubkal National Park and is around 1,740 metres above sea level. Here, hikers are met by the guides and muleteers that will help transport supplies for the next few days. From Imlil, the hike starts with a gentle climb through beautiful Berber hamlets and terraced fields. The trail

rolls through rich valleys and along babbling brooks with a sample of traditional Berber life. The terrain becomes rocky with juniper and scrub as the elevation increases. After a few hours’ ascent, you arrive at the Toubkal Refuge (also called Neltner Hut) at 3,207m. This mountain shelter offers simple, dormitory-style lodging for trekkers to rest up and acclimate before the move to the summit. Feast on a delicious meal as the sun goes down by your guides and share stories with fellow adventurers under a canopy of stars.

The second day starts early, sometimes before daybreak, with trekkers striking out for the summit by the light of their headlamps. The climb is hard work but the rewards of the challenging ascent, with steep sections and loose scree, are spectacular on a clear day. The higher you go, the thinner the air, and it takes more and more effort to take each step. The summit of Mount Toubkal experience is not easily forgettable.

Stand here and you’re confronted with jaw-dropping panoramic views overlooking the Atlas Mountains and beyond. On a clear day, you may even spot the Sahara Desert glimmering in the distance. Once you’ve taken in the euphoria of summiting and snapped some memorable photos, you will make your way back down towards Imlil.

The trip back provides an opportunity to take stock of your accomplishment and take in the breathtaking scenery from various angles. In addition to being physically demanding, finishing a two-day hike to Mount Toubkal offers the chance to fully experience Morocco’s stunning natural surroundings and rich cultural heritage.

This trek promises to be an unforgettable experience that will leave you wanting to explore this magical area more, regardless of your level of experience as a mountaineer or your desire for adventure as a novice hiker.
