Take on an incredible expedition through the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco with a 6-day Toubkal Circuit, incorporating the amazing Ifni Lake. With a combination of local culture, beautiful and rugged terrain, and challenging trekking, this is the correct adventure for you if you consider yourself a hiker or an enthusiast of being in nature.
Your adventure starts at the lovely village of Imlil, found at the base of the High Atlas Mountains. When you arrive in Imlil you will meet your guide and muleteers who will accompany you on the trek. You will have the afternoon enjoying Imlil, acclimatizing to the altitude and preparing for the coming days. Overnight at a local guesthouse.
After a traditional breakfast, depart for your trek to Tacheddirt. The trail begins to climb through green valleys and terraced fields before reaching the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2279m). Enjoy views of the surrounding snow capped peaks before you descend into the remote village of Tacheddirt. Overnight in a traditional Berber house.
The trek today continues, taking you further from civilization deep into the High Atlas Mountains. The trail passes through steep areas and ancient juniper forests as it continues to the Azib Likemt, known for its peaceful beauty and isolation. Here, you are truly away from civilization, so you will camp in this area overnight under the stars.
A highlight of the circuit is hiking to Lac d’Ifni, a lovely alpine lake at an altitude of 2,295-m which requires crossing several high passes and rocky paths to can descend to the lakeside. On your walk, you will be well rewarded with perfect swimming water and a vantage point which will allow you to really relax and reflect on your forest and mountain experiences. Camp overnight at the lake.
After departing Ifni Lake, you will start the ascent up to Refuge du Toubkal (3,207 meters) which is the base for trekkers aiming to summit Mt Toubkal. You will have incredible views of spikey peaks and deep valleys as you make your way further up into the mountains. You should arrive at the refuge with enough time to eat dinner and get some sleep before the tomorrow’s summit attempt. Overnight in the refuge.
Get up early for the final part of your trip to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest mountain in North Africa. The climb is steep and can be difficult but there is nothing compared to the views you will have across the High Atlas Range and further afield. After celebrating your summit victory, descend back to the Refuge du Toubkal for lunch and return down to Imlil; your trip ends this evening with a transfers back to Marrakech (or another destination of your choice).

The Toubkal Circuit is a popular trekking route. This trek i.e. Toubkal Circuit is a fun multi-day adventure through a variety methods of lovely landscapes and traditional Berber villages, culminating in climbing the summit of Jebel Toubkal the highest summit in North Africa.
The trek is moderate so decent physical fitness required and some experience hiking. The climb to the summit itself does require some effort as the paths leading up to the summit are steep and rocky, but we have also built-in acclimatization days into the itinerary.
The best months to plan the Toubkal Circuit are April to October as you will get better weather as well as slightly easier conditions. Although with the correct equipment, the Toubkal Circuit can be completed at various times of the year depending on conditions, meaning that trekking is possible in the winter.
Critical items for the trek include: sturdy boots, layered clothing for all temperatures, sleeping bag, day pack, water purification tablets, sun cream, and a hat. You should expect to get a complete packing list from us
Most often, accommodation is in mountain refuges or gîtes (guesthouses) in Berber villages along the way. Usually, there is a good standard of basic accommodation with dormitories and communal meals.
Most treks will begin at Imlil which is about 1.5 hour drive from Marrakech. In nearly all cases, transfers are included in your overall guided tour package.
