On day three you will also travel across the length of the Sahara desert to visit the detached Erg Chigaga desert with its spectacular sand dunes touching the sky. Spend the night in the desert and head to the Berber lifestyle and traditional market culture at Taroudant.

Itineraries

From Taroudant, you will be making your way to Essaouira which has a beautiful beach, much less noise (well, at least compared to Marrakech), great local food, a medina, and nice beaches. Finally, you will return to Marrakech to once again immerse yourself in the local souks, eclectic street performers and mixing of different cultures that shape so much of this city.

Each of these places provide a very unique opportunity to experience the different Morocco destinations so you cannot possibly forget this trip. One last note: make sure you are eating when you are traveling in Morocco; truly experience the local meals from tagines in the desert to fresh seafood in Essaouira!

Arrive in Marrakech and spend the day in the medina visiting the Bahia Palace and Koutoubia Mosque, exploring the souks and more. Overnight in Marrakech.

Toast goodbye to Marrakech with an early start to travel to Erg Chigaga on the second day. Enjoy the scenic drive through the spectacular Atlas Mountains and valleys passing Berber villages along the way. Arrive in Erg Chigaga in the evening and take a desert camel trek to watch the sunset over the sand dunes. Sleep in a traditional desert camp under the stars.

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Have breakfast in the desert camp, and spend the day in the desert , possibly sandboarding, wandering the dunes, or to an oasis nearby. Relax and enjoy the peace of the desert. Overnight in Erg Chigaga.

Depart Erg Chigaga and travel to Taroudant. On the way, visit Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ksar (a fortified village) and breathtaking desert scenery. Continue to Taroudant and explore the medieval medina, souks, and ramparts. Overnight in Taroudant.

Leave Taroudant for a drive to the beautiful coastal town of Essaouira. Explore the medina of Essaouira, walk along the sandy beaches, and visit the port. If desired, go wind or kite surfing, horseback riding, or simply relax by the sea. Overnight in Essaouira.

 
 

Enjoy a free day at Essaouira. You can continue to explore Essaouira‘s attractions, including the Skala de la Ville, Jewish Quarter, and art galleries or have fresh seafood at one of Essaouira‘s many seaside restaurants. Overnight in Essaouira.

Leave Essaouira and drive back to Marrakech.
Spend the afternoon looking around and seeing what’s left to see or pick up some last-minute shopping.
Optional visit to Jardin Majorelle or Moroccan-style Hammam.
Overnight in Marrakech.

 
 

Subject to your departure schedule, should you have prior to starting your journey to your next destination, you may have time for last-minute sightseeing or shopping in Marrakech first.
